The greatness of the first khulafa' is highlighted in the book "The History of the Khalifahs" by Imam Jalaluddin al-Suyuti. However, it is also important to understand the greatness of the most recent khulafa', the Ottomans, to realize that the khalifate of Islam has endured until recent times.
